I realize that this is a extremely short introduction to the main characters in order to entice the reader to follow this series but it really failed with me, because:There was nothing to draw me to care about the characters as they were merely introduced rather than developed.
There was no real heat, no build up of suspense, or of world building, just -
My mate
She's scare that mating will interfere with her FBI job
We'll make it work - let's have sex and mark each other
Oh by the way - I have to get my mother out of a bad place
The end - to be continued
That was it. While there was no misspellings or wrong word usage, there was also no development of characters, the world they live in, or the plot. More of a very bare outline of a story. While the author maybe capable of writing, I am very leery that she can write a fully developed series. It would have been more convincing if she had spent more time developing the characters and setting up the suspense in the 1st book in the series to entice the reader to keep returning to find out more about what happens to them. As it stands now - I don't care about the characters or if they ever get their HEA. This came off as more of a couple of underdeveloped first few chapters that I fear are going to continue with more underdeveloped chapters.

A Minor Shift White Fir Bend Cult Book 1 edition by Tabitha Conall Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
I would actually give this 4.5 stars if that option were available.
This is a really good short story that had me hooked immediately. While many short stories often do not have very good character development, due to the short length of the book, I didn't feel that way at all with "A Minor Shift." You really begin to actually care about the characters and hope they continue on with their "Happily Ever After." I'm looking forward to the next book in this series to come out; though this is a standalone story, so no cliffhangers or multiple books to buy if you do not choose to.
***Very Minor Spoilers***
You have a female main character, Eva, who wanted it all - the career, family, marriage, etc - but is afraid that is not even remotely possible, because of things she seen while growing up. She chooses her career... until the male lead, Bowie, convinces her that she won't have to choose and he will do whatever it takes to help her become successful and have the family she always dreamed of. I simply adored both characters; both were strong and independant people.
I have to admit though, my favorite part of the story was when they shifted into their animal forms (he is a lion shifter, while she is a black jaguar) together towards the end. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves shapeshifting romances.
As with all of Tabitha Conall's books, I really enjoyed this start of a new series. All of the elements were there for a romance book, but I'm used to Ms Conall's books to have suspense and action in them, so I did miss that. Also I felt that I may have missed a prequel book or even chapter, explaining the connection between the main characters, since they've known each other for a while when this book starts. The connection is somewhat explained in the first quarter of the book, but when details like that are missing, it turns a longer relationship into something that seems like insta-love. But when you're dealing with the world of shifters and fated mates, insta-love is almost expected.
I would recommend this to any PNR fan, and it's a great one to get started on, since it's the first book in a four part series. Jump in and drink some of the Conall-KoolAid!! You'll soon own almost all of her books, like I do! It's totally worth it!!
I read this for free. Thank the author for making it available to read for free. I enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was a good series starter. It had some steam factor to the sexual scenes. I was happy the hero and heroine worked it out and got their HEA.
********CAUTION POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD> PLEASE STOP NOW IF YOU DON"T WANT READ ANY SPOILERS>THANKS**********
Book basically appears to be starting the series. It is a short read. It starts with use being told from hero's memory how the H/h met and his military bodies. Appears he got very close to heroine while she was with them in military mission but she came back to the states. She works for FBI and is very ambitions. We learn about her own childhood and how it warped her believe that having family would negatively affect her career. So she is willing to walk away from her mate without a backwards look.
Hero wants claim heroine. He makes effort call her but she tells him she is in a date. He gets upset and goes after her. Thankfully his friend is there to keep him level headed. She turns him down. This really makes hero sad and he wants to keep pushing heroine, but is convinced by his friend to go out for drink with him instead. Heroine is still determined to keep her career first. She also decides to go for drink to help her relax from stressful day.
Things take turning point here because they are both in same bar and hero is not alone!!! Heroine gets upset and does something about it. Again, thankfully hero's friend is there to help them both be level headed. Hero finally convinces heroine to give him a chance. However, this is a series and ends with series cliffhanger that starts the next hero's love
I really like hero. He was not afraid to go after his mate. I understood where heroine was coming from, because of her background, but did not like how she was willing to let it go or wait until she is ready before pursuing hero. She even says that it sounds cold. I gave it a four because I liked hero and would continue series. I just did not like heroine or her reasoning. It is safe read. It is quick read. More 0.5 prequel than whole book. It was missing some depth and everything was like in a day, rest was just from being told or character's telling use from internal thoughts. Both experienced to know what they like in bed, but we only get really one steamy love scene in this short read.
